The video below explains how DNA replication occurs and the importance of telomere lengthening. As our telomeres shorten our cells will only replicate a certain number of times. Once they become to short our cells are no longer able to replicate, thus causing celluar senescence, or cell death. Telomerase acts as a bridge in the lengthening of telomeres that have already replicated.
